How, according to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, do the youth of India constitute a resourceful segment of our society?
Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, a born scientist, was hailed as the missile man of India. He was earnestly proud of India and its people. His mission was to transform India into a developed nation by the year 2020, below the age of twenty five are awakened. Children and youth are the picture of a nation’s future. They are the hope of our tomorrow. The youth constitute a sizable, vibrant and resourceful segment of our society which has the burning desire to scale greater heights. If their energies are properly channelized, they will unleash a momentum that would propel the nation on the fast track of development. We need to nurture this vast and precious human capital by making it a focal point of our planning and development process. Encompassing the needs, rights and expectations of youth to the Centre stage of development should be our priority. Every child in our country should be allowed to blossom, especially those who are not fortunate. If we achieve this target, then every child will become an asset for national development.
Why is it essential to enlighten the third category of families in our villages?
India has a vast population that can be divided into three categories. The first, the fortunate ones who are economically sound and realize the importance of good education. The second category is the one who realizes the importance of education but does not have adequate sources. Adequate knowledge to tap their intelligence at the right time and the third category who are economically weak and do not realize the value of education and hence for generations their children are neglected and live in poverty. According to Dr. Kalam, a majority of India’s population falls under this category from the rural areas and from the urban poor. It is essential they are enlightened and given an opportunity to come out from their shackles and prove themselves to the world their capability. Unfortunately, there is about 35% drop out after 5th class and 55% after 8th class. This situation has to be changed.
