But the woman in charge of the shop denied saying that the painting belonged to the owner of the shop and he did not wish to sell it. However, the painting was so touching that it kept haunting the author. Whenever he got a chance, he would drive all the way through Taos and to the gallery and see the painting. And though in poor health, the woman survived and gradually became normal. They started painting once again and opened an exhibition gallery. That particular painting was made by the man while they were studying. And the woman in the painting was none other than his lover and now his wife and who was now also in charge of that gallery. Why did the author become a regular visitor to the art gallery?

The story 'Not for Sale' is about two people whose deep love and faith worked a miracle. It revolves around a painting that is 'Not for Sale.'

One summer the author drove into the quaint little town of Taos, New Mexico, where many exhibitions were being held. In one small shop his eye was caught by a lovely painting of a young woman of perhaps nineteen or twenty. The narrator thought that the painting was extraordinary. There were many portraits of that kind, but that particular one attracted him. He thought it's composing was good, and it had a certain feeling of warmth and affection that touched him. He wanted to buy it, but was informed that it was not for sale. He had to leave without buying it; however, the painting continued to haunt him. So he returned many times to look at the painting and thus became a regular visitor to the art gallery.

"Faith can often work miracles". Explain.

Yes, faith can often work miracles. This fact is brought out very poignantly in the story 'Not for Sale.' This is a love story of two people who defined all odds and came out winners.

The two young artists met and fell in love in New York City. They decided to get married. But a few days before the wedding, the girl discovered that she had a fatal blood disease which would let her live for six months or at most a year. On learning this, she decided to leave her fiancĂ©. She did so. However, the young man also found out the true reason for her leaving him. He immediately followed her and insisted on marrying her. He was confident that their deep love and faith would overcome even the Damocles' sword of death hanging over their heads. The two young people got married. The young girl was quite ill for a few years, but eventually got over her illness. She herself narrates her love story to the author. The author, therefore, feels that 'Faith can often work miracles.'
